Dear Michel, Carine and Integral Friends,
I was very excited when I learned a few months ago about the Université Intégrale in Paris.
I live in Australia and have been involved in integral research for several years now, including studying and working with the writings and practices of Rudolf Steiner and exploring the relationships among his work and that of Jean Gebser, Ken Wilber, Ervin László, Sri Aurobindo, Edgar Morin and others. My PhD research drew from all of these thinkers and as part of my doctoral research I undertook a major analysis—especially of Steiner, Gebser and Wilber—which I called "The Evolution of Consciousness as a Planetary Imperative: An Integration of Integral Views." It was published in the journal Integral Review and can be accessed online at:

I should also tell you that I'm a futures researcher and current President (2009-2013) of the World Futures Studies Federation. I have recently written about an expanded view of integral futures. http://researchbank.rmit.edu.au/view/rmit:3644

One of the things that I have found disturbing with the "integral movement" in general is that so many people tend to cluster around a particular theorist, e.g. Wilber, Sri Aurobindo, Ervin László. This can potentially be divisive and fragmenting rather than integrating. This is not how I like to be.
From what I have read so far of the Université Intégrale in Paris, it seems to actively work to counter this siloistic approach. There appears to be a genuine openness and embodiment of the principle of unity in diversity in the programs that have been offered in the first two years. This openness and inclusiveness also seems to be embodied in the core organisers, Carine Dartiguepeyrou and Michel Saloff-Coste.
I think a major strength of the UI initiative is its breadth and openness. Its non-alignment to an institution such as a university is a double-edged sword. It is perhaps what enables the openness, yet this may result in its operations not being taken seriously by the academic community. Some bridge building with academia may be valuable. Another major strength is that UI is making very good use of Web 2.0 networking capabilities, which very few university-based organizations are really doing.
So I wonder what the future holds for the Université Intégrale de Paris.
My personal interest would be to see a deepening of theoretical and philosophical aspects associated with integral consciousness—perhaps by way of establishing a research centre. I think it would also be valuable if the Université Intégrale de Paris made collaborative links with other related organizations. For example, I would love to see something organised in the future where members from all the major centres that are working to further integral theory and practice in the world could come together. Too idealistic? Or not?

Le fossé entre les super-puissances que sont les Etats-Unis et la Chine, et les points de vue des autres nations, européennes ou non. Un troisième clivage oppose ceux qui ont porté la prise de conscience des enjeux d'environnement et ceux qui pensent que les menaces sont devenues trop sérieuses pour être laissées aux écologistes. Que va devenir la petite sirène d'une croyance dans la marche vers une Terre-Patrie ? Où va l'espoir d'une nouvelle modernité après le sommet de Copenhague ? Le débat, animé par Philippe Lemoine, s'articulera en 3 temps :

L'enjeu du climat se définit par rapport à une échéance où se jouerait l'avenir de l'humanité. Les écologistes se sont toujours inscrits dans une logique politique où les préoccupations citoyennes conduisaient à privilégier les démarches progressives et "bottom-up".
Où en sont les écologistes pour ce qui est de leur capacité à porter dans le débat politique une approche originale et pertinente sur un sujet aussi massif par rapport à d'autres enjeux très locaux ?- Autorités mondiales et controverses scientifiques
La question des expertises et des controverses entre "réchauffistes" et "climato-sceptiques".
Quelles transformations connaissent les rapports sciences/sociétés dans un monde globalisé où de nouvelles formes de grouvernance s'instituent avec l'émergence d'autorités mondiales telles que le GIEC? Où peut résider aujourd'hui le pouvoir mondial d'alerte?
Où en est le débat d'idées entre les tenants d'un retour au leadership des Etats et les tenants d'une ouverture écologique porteuse d'une force de modernité? THREE NEW CORE SERVICES DEFINED FOR RENAISSANCE2 Over the past six months we have been working on a development plan for Renaissance2. (See http://bit.ly/a7Oy4m for an overview). From our research and dialogues with members and partners, we've formulated three new service prototypes which we will pilot during the second quarter of 2010. They are: 1. EVOLVENOW: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE AT ALL LEVELS
As a member of Renaissance2, you signed up as someone interested in change and personal growth. You, and others like you, are already a force for good in the world, and most of the members of R2 we've met want to know: "How can I be more effective as an agent of beneficial change, make a good living, and also enhance my life in the process?". There cannot be growth without change, yet we all find change uncomfortable, if not difficult and often painful.
EvolveNow brings together the life coaches, trainers and mentors in and around Renaissance2 to provide a community of practice for personal development. The methods involved range from integral to inter-developmental to conscious evolution and beyond, underpinned by the integral operating system which takes physical, emotional, mental and spiritual lines of development into account at all levels of development using all the quadrants as a context. Dans ce deuxième volet de son interview, Dominique Laplane nous parle d'un syndrome qu'il a découvert et dont l'importance n'a pas encore été intégrée par la majorité de la communauté des neurosciences. Celui du syndrome de perte de l'auto-activation. Les personnes concernées connaissent des moments de conscience vide ou de conscience pure où ils disent être conscients ... sans que cette conscience repose sur le moindre contenu. La conscience ne se réduit pas ainsi a des contenus de conscience mais paraît avoir son existence propre. Dominique Laplane rapproche ces états de ceux atteints, d'après leur témoignages par un certain nombre de méditants. PS: dans un domaine différents, nous attirons votre attention sur l'émission Le jeu de la mort diffusée par France 2 le mercredi 17 mars reproduisant dans le cadre de la télé-réalité l'expérience de Stanley Milgram. Cette émission montre que 80% des participants au lieu de 65% dans les expériences de Milgram sont incités à envoyer un choc qu'ils imaginent pouvoir être mortels à un "cobaye " qui répond mal aux questions posées. Cela nous paraît être un résultat très inquiétant qui à la suite de films comme "Le prix du danger" ou" Network" qui montrent la menace que peut représenter pour notre société une certaine forme de télévision.

Pour certaines philosophies, la situation de crise est même ce qui caractérise l'existence humaine. Les arts, les écrits et les sciences de chaque culture y ont apporté leurs réponses. Les diverses traditions spirituelles aussi.En quoi nos sociétés ou l'humanité traversent-elle une crise ? Des crises ?Qu'est ce que les grands mouvements spirituels ont à dire à ce sujet ? Comment les religions et spiritualités comprennent-elles cette époque de crise ? S'en trouvent-elles transformées ? En quoi permettent-elles de surmonter les périodes troublées ?La crise est-elle une menace ou une opportunité pour les spiritualités ?
Nous avons le plaisir de vous proposer de participer à cette rencontre lors de laquelle des réflexions, des témoignages et des échanges avec des représentants de diverses orientations spirituelles nous permettront de nous questionner ensemble sur ces sujets, avec la philosophie comme terrain de dialogue.Intervenants :
- Etienne Grieu, jésuite,professeur de théologie au Centre Sèvres, auteur de plusieurs livres, « Chemins De Croyants, Passage Du Christ », « Nés De Dieu - Itinéraires De Chrétiens Engagés, Essai De Lecture Théologique », « Un lien si fort - Quand l'amour de Dieu se fait diaconie »- Jean-Paul Ribes, bouddhiste, journaliste, disciple du maître Kalou Rinpoche, fondateur du Comité de Soutien au Peuple Tibétain, il a préfacé plusieurs ouvrages du Dalaï Lama.
- Justine Caulliez, coach et formatrice en développement personnel, co-fondatrice de l'association Terre de Conscience, inspirée d'une démarche intégrale reliant les aspects du corps, du cœur et de la conscience.
- Selami Varlik, doctorant à l' l'École des hautes études en sciences sociales en herméneutique coranique
