SEPTEMBER 9, 2014 NEWSLETTER
Climate and PeaceDear Readers,
The People's Climate March in New York City is being heralded as the largest climate march in history. It coincides with the International Day of Peace, September 21. Climate and Peace might seem like two different ideas yet closer examination reveals they are deeply interconnected. Arable land, healthy soil, sources of clean water, fuel, and energy are all clearly tied to climate…and also to conflict, from ancient tribal disputes to modern global warfare.
People everywhere are waking up to the truth that nothing 'out there' is going to restore the climate or build peace. It's up to us. Join a climate action in your area, and one of the many events–live or online–celebrating the International Day of Peace.
Kosmos Project Director, Dot Maver, has been a peacebuilder all her career. This month she seems to be everywhere at once–speaking, advocating, witnessing–joining great peace luminaries Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Daniel Ellsberg, Deepak Chopra, Bill McKibben, and others. Learn more about Dot's efforts in this newsletter. We also include information and logistics about the March, the new climate movie Disruption, an essay on people power, and musings about the earth in words and pictures from friends in Norway.
The thin, fragile atmosphere of our planet, embracing us all, is a profound gift of Life. The thunderstorm, the rainbow, the sunset erupting in color, the morning dew – all are reminders of this beautiful embrace. Let's come together in peace to help protect our precious climate.
The mission of Kosmos is to inform, inspire and engage individual and collective participation for global transformation in harmony with all Life.
In loving cooperation,
The Kosmos Team

'When it comes to climate change, why do we do so little when we know so much?'
How do we understand the growing environmental and political challenges of global climate change as well as the possibilities for taking action? Why are citizens organizing for the world's largest rally at the People's Climate March in New York City on Sunday, September 21st? Is this the generation that will finally mobilize to solve the global climate crisis? 350.org's new film "DISRUPTION: Climate. Change!" addresses these questions and more.
